Miraculous protest against banks in Romania

Around one in five Romanians have taken out loans in recent years. Now a government decree forbidding banks to charge fees on loans in future is causing problems. The banks are seeking other ways of generating income, which has prompted thousands of lawsuits by bank customers. Costi Rogozanu finds this unusual commenting in the Blog Voxpublica: "In the past few weeks a miracle has occurred. A genuine protest movement against the banks has taken shape. Given the trouble the trade union leaders have getting people to protest on the streets [against the austerity measures] it warms my heart to see that for once something is happening. After being abused for the thousandth time the people have woken up and are trying to do battle. Less in the traditional form of protest than by putting their hopes in lawyers. ... This September has given us a reason to rejoice: this is the first time in many years that we have seen signs of rebellion and solidarity."
