Russia mocks Katyn victims
Without mentioning any names, a court in Moscow ascertained on Tuesday who bore responsibility for declaring a large number of the files on the proceedings of a former military court strictly confidential. The documents could shed light on the shooting of Polish officers near the Russian village of Katyn during the Second World War. The liberal daily Gazeta Wyborcza is unhappy that no names have been cited: "Who did this? The public will not receive an answer because the court is examining the case behind closed doors. The entire procedure and its result are being kept strictly confidential. All those involved in the proceedings have been sworn to silence under penalty. In this way the revelation of the secret becomes a secret in itself, strictly guarded by the state apparatus. ... They are laughing at the families of the victims and mocking the Russian human rights activists."
