Milan Vodička on superstar Kim and the scandal in Afghanistan
Rather than addressing the massive electoral fraud in Afghanistan the West gets caught up with the news that Kim Jong-un is the new presumed heir to the leadership of North Korea, complains Milan Vodička in the liberal daily Mladá fronta Dnes: "The experts don't even know how old the crown prince ... is. He is said to be relatively open, to have studied in Switzerland and to like baseball and computer games. Osama bin Laden also likes football and has studied in the West. ... And Afghanistan? We've grown accustomed to the corruption of 'democracy' there. It would have come as a surprise if the elections had been carried out in an upright manner. More or less like the headline 'Man bites dog'. But it's a grave error not to voice our dismay. We continue to send our soldiers there, next year the numbers will increase. ... It turns out that the number of frauds was even a third higher this time round than in the presidential elections last year. And even then the fraud was on a par with what you see in North Korea. The worst thing is that we still go on patting everyone on the back and lying through our teeth."
