The trade unions' crazy demands
The protests organised by trade unions in several EU countries are senseless, writes the conservative daily Rzeczpospolita in an ironic commentary: "The will of the people is to work as little as possible for as much money as possible - preferably for the state and with that very same state paying all of the daily conveniences, from the visit to the dentist to our children's schooling. What? There's no money left? Then let's take it from the bankers, the company managements and others ... ! A budget deficit? ... Is there really such a thing? The heroes of work have addressed the leaders of Europe with a clear message: there's still time to stop tightening our belts, ... the General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation John Monks … told Brussels yesterday. I somehow get the feeling one of his forefathers was playing with the Titanic's orchestra when the ship went down."
