Luxembourg's Grand Duke makes his mark
Ten years ago Grand Duke Henri ascended to the throne in Luxembourg and since then much has changed in the country, writes the weekly Le Jeudi: "The monarchy has changed much more than during the thirty-six-year reign of Grand Duke Jean. When they came to power Grand Duke Henri and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Teresa immediately imposed a new style. More modern, a bit more open, this style was quickly the subject of polemics. Although the Grand Ducal family is known and respected for steadfast discretion, it placed itself in the spotlight. ... In the last ten years Luxembourg has changed entirely, and the monarchy has not escaped these upheavals. The ducal court has been one of the artisans of this change, more or less voluntarily. In any case the Grand Duke has fashioned this throne for himself and has made his mark on the history of this monarchy."
