EU needs joint economic policy
The EU can only withstand another economic crisis provided the member states agree to a common economic policy, writes the daily Le Quotidien: "Ultimately the various positions of the different states [on financial policy] are unimportant. Really striking, however, is their lack of mutual solidarity. In the 20th century the murderous wars that ravaged Europe made it necessary to construct a durable political peace and a stable union. ... Today is marked by economic wars, and the least one can say is that this era promotes conflict. But if Europe really wants to react appropriately and save the Union, it is urgently necessary to establish true solidarity and joint economic governance. Failing that the Union will lack the critical mass necessary to survive another economic crisis."
