Al-Qaida has failed

The strategy of the al-Qaida terror network - which is presumed to be behind the attempted parcel bomb attacks - has failed, writes the left-liberal daily Libération: "The foiled attacks illustrate once again the failure of the strategy adopted more than a decade ago under the influence of Osama bin Laden. Islamic terror was to strike the Western world ... incessantly. It must now be said that ... the movement has mainly killed Muslims. In an absurd and bloody paradox, the organisation has above all succeeded in attracting the Western armies to Iraq and Afghanistan. And it has whetted the Western forces' policing techniques to the extent that its leaders have been regularly eliminated and most of the attacks it has attempted in recent years have been foiled."
