Europe too weak for Fifa World Cup

Fifa's decision to give the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar has left the world of football in uproar. For the daily Le Soir it is proof that other countries are leaving Europe behind: "From now on the world's biggest media and sports event will make its decisions on the basis of the potential of the areas to be conquered. The frustration and resentment of the five European losers are understandable. But it's a fact that the economic and political powers no longer see 'old Europe' as a growth region. ... Obama doesn't know where to go or who to meet in Europe. The financial markets don't know whether to look to London, Berlin or Paris to understand who is overseeing the debts and the euro crisis. And the football world didn't know whether to entrust England, Spain and Portugal or the Netherlands and Belgium with the World Cup."
