Moscow's all-smiles, no-teeth doctrine
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's official visit to Poland today and improving relations between the two countries - including the Russian parliament's declaration in November that Joseph Stalin bears responsibility for the Katyn Massacre - are part of Russian's new foreign policy doctrine, the daily Delo believes: "Distancing itself from Stalin's misdeeds is just one aspect of Russia's intention, and it is a project piloted by Medvedev. This is why recently Russia has made overtures not only to Poland but also the EU as a whole and Nato, something which was regarded as impossible only a short time ago. With this new foreign policy doctrine, which can be described as a 'doctrine of smiling without showing one's teeth' - to quote Medvedev himself - Russia aims to attract the foreign investment without which the country can't be modernised."
