Finance minister endangers Slovenia's credit rating
Slovenia's Court of Audit has called on Prime Minister Borut Pahor to dismiss Finance Minister Franc Križanič on account of mistakes his ministry committed in the context of the sale of shares of an international shipping company. If Pahor refuses and sides with his beleaguered minister Slovenia will come under dreadful stress on international finance markets, the daily Delo fears: "Who's going to lend money unconditionally to a country and a government which the local Court of Audit has accused of allowing the budget and data on the true level of indebtedness to be distorted through its passivity? The revelations and demands of the Court of Audit will doubtlessly be a sign for rating agencies that Slovenia may well represent a greater risk than is readily apparent. With its lack of transparency the country is sawing off the branch it's sitting on."
