Better pay for doctors in Slovakia
After thousands of Czech physicians working in the country's clinics have resigned owing to poor working conditions and inadequate pay, the hospitals are increasingly turning to Slovakia for staff to replace them. The liberal daily Sme is worried: "This matter could cause real problems for Slovakia's healthcare system. Namely if too many Slovakian doctors decide to replace the emigrating Czech doctors in exchange for higher salaries. Such a move would not be a show of solidarity but rather should serve as a lever for demanding better pay - here in Slovakia. In salary negotiations it's always employees who have the genuine option of leaving who are in a better position."
