Poland seeks it place within Europe
Twenty years after it was first founded the heads of state and government of Germany, France and Poland revived the so-called Weimar Triangle on Monday in Warsaw. The meeting comes at a time when Poland is seeking its place within Europe, notes the business paper Hospodářské noviny: "The themes today are not the same as 20 years ago. Back then it was about integrating Poland into Europe and obtaining its approval of German reunification. Today Poland can't really decide whether it's a big or small country. And this is the source of certain tensions within the political leadership and the population as well as in relations with the major powers of the EU and Poland's direct neighbours. In recent times those relations have gradually cooled. An opinion poll published last week reveals that among Poles the most popular nationalities are the Czechs with 51 percent and the Slovakians with 49 percent. Those are higher popularity ratings than the Poles usually give even the Americans, who scored 43 percent this time."
