Poland's minimal influence in the EU

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on Wednesday presented to the European Parliament the principal objectives of the Polish EU Council presidency in the second half of the year. But Poland won't have much influence, the conservative daily Rzeczpospolita writes, because when push comes to shove Germany and France call the shots in Europe: "After the adoption of the Treaty of Lisbon, it's become clear that the EU Council presidency is not as important as it once was. And not only that: today the European Commission must go to great lengths to attain information on agreements reached by Germany and France on matters pertaining to the entire Union. So it's no wonder that Minister Radosław Sikorski avoided making any overly ambitious statements when he presented the plans for the Polish presidency."
