Czech Republic fleeces the disabled
The Czech Republic's conservative government, which has been in power for around a year, wants to cut government benefits for the disabled for the second time since it took office. The liberal daily Pražský deník staunchly opposes the plan: "This puts a spoke in the wheels of the disabled. We must be ashamed of those who are responsible for such measures in government. The politicians say that the disabled are living beyond their means and there must be an end to this. ... We, the healthy, won't allow this. Particularly as such an antisocial reform is not just arrogant regarding the sick; those who hurt those weaker than themselves deserve our contempt - and a couple of slaps in the face. Unfortunately the Social Minister has immunity. ... It is our task to defend the weak and the sick against the despotism and bullying of the authorities."
