Inconsistent penis bearers
A Belgian parliamentary committee on Wednesday approved a ban on burqas but has rejected a proposal to introduce female quotas for company management boards. This is a case of double standards, the daily De Morgen concludes: "The only motivation for the burqa ban, as its proponents declared almost unanimously, was the honourable fight for more women's rights, to send a strong message against the oppression of women and for gender equality. ... At about the same time the very same parliament, often the same parties, in other words the very same brave champions of equal rights for women, began a battle of words to postpone for as long as possible a draft law [on female quotas for company managements]. ... For what will the economic basis of our society come to if a blathering horde of female alibis whose only claim to a position on the board is that they lack a penis are allowed to have their say? ... You can say many things about this parliament but not that it is a master of logic."
