Obama triumphs over bin Laden
US special forces killed top terrorist Osama bin Laden last night in Pakistan. This will secure US President Barack Obama a great amount of domestic support, writes Lluís Bassets in his blog Del Alfiler al Elefante: "He who opposed the Iraq war is now bringing the war on terror to an end by chopping off the Hydra's head, by decapitating the challenging caudillo of mega-terrorism. This controversial and prematurely honoured winner of the Nobel Peace Prize has succeeded where Bush failed. ... The impact on domestic politics is obvious. Everything will be different now in the presidential election campaign for 2012. The president's image has been boosted by an operation pertaining to national security, a milestone for any politics with a claim to hegemony. Let's not forget that even among the Democrats there were those who doubted Obama's ability to be a president with the instinct and skill to guarantee the security of US citizens. Now it's a fact: Obama has attained huge kudos."
