End to clash of civilisations

The end of Osama bin Laden could be the end of the ineffable "clash of civilisations", hopes the daily De Morgen: "You can almost see the death of Bin Laden as a symbolic end, not only to fundamentalist terrorism but also to its misuse as a way to increase and problematise the contrasts between the West and the Islamic world. ... History knows no tabula rasa or clean breaks from one day to the next. ... But the death of Bin Laden, together with the developments in the Arab countries, ensures that no one can talk about world politics any more in terms of black and white, us and them, good and evil. It will not ensure that power politics are cast aside tomorrow and everything will be love, peace and harmony. But the death of Osama bin Laden and the Arab Spring could herald an era in which the two 'cultures' are no longer hermetically sealed."
