Poland should learn from Nord Stream
The Nord Stream AG, a consortium mostly owned by Russian and German shareholders, has completed construction of the first pipe for the Nord Stream gas pipeline. The conservative daily Rzeczpospolita reiterates its criticism of the project and hopes that in future Poland will be quicker to take a stance against similar Russian-German construction projects: "The construction of this pipeline is not a success for Poland. This project is neither a nice gesture towards Poland nor does it benefit our country - either economically or in terms of energy security. ... Now we have to live with this. We won't declare a war because of it. All we can do is draw our conclusions for the future. This battle of the pipeline should serve to remind future Polish governments of how to shape their policies towards Moscow and Berlin. Germany and Russia are not just neighbours with whom we should maintain good relations but also powers that are mainly concerned with taking care of their own interests."
