Possibility of plot against Strauss-Kahn
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the IMF charged with attempted rape, is being confronted with a growing number of fresh allegations against him. No one can know whether the accusations are true or an attempt to sideline Strauss-Kahn, hitherto the most promising candidate for the French presidential elections, writes Anatole Kaletsky in the conservative daily The Times: "The point of invoking the presumption of innocence for Mr Strauss-Kahn is not merely to restate a self-righteous platitude that is habitually ignored usually by the global media and the US judicial system. My real point is that the rush to judgement in an intensely political case such as this could have dangerous implications not only for France but for democracies around the world, potentially interposing judicial systems and shadowy agencies of law enforcement between elected leaders and their voters."
