Slovakia discriminates against gays
Slovak gays and lesbians celebrated Christopher Street Day on the weekend amidst a major security operation after last year being forced to cancel their initiative owing to massive threats. Unfortunately politicians have still not changed their attitude towards homosexuals: "The deputy prime minister of the Slovak Republic for human rights, Rudolf Chmel, has answered Yes to the question of whether homosexuals are discriminated against because they can't register their partnerships. It's a state scandal that he has had to admit this. Neither the constitutional institutions nor the political parties are doing anything to combat this discrimination. This violates the bans on all types of discrimination laid down in the constitution, international treaties and the law. ... It's speaks volumes when a party leader says: 'Even if I were to make a list of issues according to priority and it comprised 74,000 points, this issue still wouldn't be on it'."
