Hadžić's arrest brings Serbia closer to EU
Serbia arrested war-crimes suspect Goran Hadžić on Wednesday. He was the last fugitive sought by the UN tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Hadžić is said to have deported tens of thousands of Croats in the early 1990s. The arrest is good for Serbia but the victims of the war criminal remain trapped in their pain, writes the left-liberal daily Delo: "At least for Serbia Hadžić's arrest is good news. Now Serbia's president Boris Tadić has kept his promise that not just Ratko Mladić would be arrested. Moreover this event brings Belgrade a step closer to Brussels. But unfortunately we know the sequel to yesterday's developments: the public and the media will be more preoccupied with Hadžić's hideout and what he gets to eat in Scheveningen than with his bloody deeds. And what about the victims? They will remain trapped in the vicious circle of pain and in the expectation of being disappointed by the sentence."
