EU criticism of Bulgaria falls flat
In its latest progress report for Bulgaria and Romania presented on Wednesday the EU Commission criticises both countries for their lack of effort in the fight against corruption and organised crime. The daily Sega complains that the EU has failed to expose the political leaders for what they are: "It's time Brussels stopped playing the dog who barks but doesn't bite, pointing out the problems but keeping silent about the names. The progress reports are more and more sterile with each year that passes and in the most recent report there is no mention of any names even in the small print. So no one feels directly targeted by the criticism, as harsh as it may be. With this lack of resolve Europe is sending us the wrong message. After all, we know who our bandits are only too well because they don't bother hiding. On the contrary - they flaunt their power. We must expose them and pillory them before we send them off to where they belong - the sidelines."
