Western Europe can learn from Bulgarians
Unlike the Western European states the Eastern European states have hardly any state debt. This may have serious consequences, the left-liberal Süddeutsche Zeitung warns: "The euro crisis is upsetting people. Should they have to pay for the sacrifices that Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Ireland have failed to make, and that they were expected to make as a matter of course? And why is the EU Commission turning the thumbscrews on Bulgaria and Romania because of irregularities while it for years stood by and watched how the Greek parties squandered money to give their clientele cushy jobs in public service? Precisely because such things are all too familiar at home this is a particularly painful thorn in their sides. This frustration may have serious consequences. Slovakia already refused [to participate in] the first financial aid package for Greece a year ago. And currently the liberal Solidarity and Freedom party ... is resisting further billions for Athens with iron determination."
