Polish firms fight for EU funding in court
A fifth of Poland's approximately 150,000 companies have had to go to court to secure EU funding for investments in the past two years. It is a good thing that the companies are sticking up for their rights, the conservative daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna notes, but says more professionalism on the part of the authorities would be better: "According to the business community, it is the all-powerful but often incompetent government officials who would hardly be capable of setting up a company who are an obstacle on the path to EU funding. We can all recall the problems that the IT sector had with the authorities. Unfair decisions and lawsuits went on for years and led to companies going bankrupt. Compensation was never paid. Fortunately the entrepreneurs now have an effective weapon at their disposal. And they have learned to use it. It's just a pity that they have to fight like this instead of receiving EU funding in a normal and professional procedure."
