Yanukovych makes martyr of Timoshenko
The trial against Ukraine's former Prime Minister Julia Timoshenko on charges of abuse of power will resume today, Wednesday. International observers have said the charges are politically motivated. But current Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych's revenge campaign will only strengthen the pro-European opposition, comments the daily Delo in delight: "After the 2004 Orange Revolution the country can no longer remain simply a 'Russian protectorate', particularly thanks to the western parts of the country where the mood is pronouncedly anti-Russian. And that has only been reinforced by Timoshenko's arrest. Therefore her arrest is likely to strengthen the pro-European opposition. Head of state Viktor Yanukovych has made a martyr of his eternal political rival Timonshenko with his latest manoeuvre and thus given her the chance to launch an unprecedented political campaign."
