Blind vandalism
The heavy rioting in the UK is not a political protest but simply raw violence, according to the liberal-conservative daily Die Presse: "To ennoble the destructive violence of masked idiots by hailing it as the avant garde of resistance in this way is absurd. We haven't heard even half a sentence of political justification from the hooligan brothers. Most of them probably wouldn't be capable of formulating one. This expression of their burning interests is not about the consequences of the financial crisis but about plasma TV screens, trainers, iPhones and the clothes they have stolen. They weren't aiming to trigger a debate, they wanted to set cars, houses and police stations on fire. It's not a new generation of angry citizens who have taken to London's streets but a horde of consumer anarchists driven by blind fury and seeking adventure in a petty war against an overtaxed police force."
