Miss Romania as dracula embarrassing
At the Miss Universe beauty pageant slated for São Paulo in September Miss Romania will appear in a costume modelled on the clothing of Vlad III the Impaler, the Wallachian prince on whom the literary figure of Count Dracula was based. The daily Gândul is appalled: "Now it's a young woman who must shoulder the burden of this trademark fashioned for us by the West. She will sport a tasteless costume, giving the impression that it's typical for Romanians to walk around in a cape and blood-splattered garments. Dracula is as famous internationally as Ceaușescu, who is considered a sort of communist vampire. But the two are not suited to every occasion. For us they're ideal when we don't know what to tell the world about ourselves, or when we're too lazy to think up anything else about what makes us unique. ... We will leave an unforgettably bad impression with this vamped-up Miss Romania 2011. Dear organisers, please don't send a beautiful young girl to São Paulo dressed as a vampire!"
