The difficult quest for the truth
The release of Dominique Strauss-Kahn is by no means the end of the affair, writes the left-liberal daily Der Standard: "The accumulated accusations against DSK are likely to bury the brilliant economist's ambitions of becoming Sarkozy's successor and moving into the Élysée palace in May 2012. Some may see this as a brutal consequence of a media system that commits character assassination with its TV images - perhaps tainted by anti-Semitism. Others however will be delighted that at least politically, the misdeeds of a power and sex-crazed man have come to an end, even if US justice has failed. There is a world of difference separating these views. What we know for sure is that difficult-to-prove accusations of rape, as in the Kachelmann and Assange cases, trigger enormous emotional reactions and bring all kinds of supposed know-it-alls onto the scene. But know-it-alls aren't always right. All that remains is the humble insight that there is no absolute justice - only absolute commitment to the quest for it."
