Portuguese firm censors gay art
The Portuguese insurance company Tranquilidade has banned an exhibition in its art rooms because it was about homosexuality. Journalist and author Manuel António Pina comments ironically on the move in the daily Jornal de Notícias: "As a customer of this insurance company I now feel much more relaxed. I wasn't before, because when filling out all the forms I noticed with concern that I hadn't been asked whether I was homosexual. Because I, the insured person, could be gay for all they know. ... And that would be an affront to the corporate values of Tranquilidade. ... It's good to know that on the territory of the Iberian macho there is a company that has the courage to ban 'degenerate art' like Germany and the Soviet Union did in the 1940s."
