Russian babushkas flood Prague
Prague's tourist strips are full of Russian-run souvenir shops filled with babushkas and other mementos. That has nothing to do with the Czech Republic, the conservative daily Lidové noviny complains: "The people of Prague care very much about the image of their city. In no other European metropolis do you find such a one-sided offer of Russian souvenirs. Brussels has its pralines, lace and Manneken Pis. The idea of people trying to peddle babushkas in the old city there is absurd. Anyone who says that everything in Prague is a result of capitalist laissez-faire is only making excuses. Because here someone - or some people - really are responsible for this monoculture. Namely the city council, which issues the operating licences."
