Protect Swiss banks from the US
The Swiss government is being too indulgent in the dispute over the disclosure of information on US citizens with money in Swiss accounts, writes the right-wing conservative weekly Die Weltwoche: "The US is waging an imperialist economic war against Switzerland. ... For months, pressure from the American tax authorities has been mounting on Switzerland and its banking sector. The disclosure of bank data is to be pushed through with threats. The major power expects the little country to deliver hundreds, perhaps thousands of files on the basis of its right of distress. ... Finance Minister Widmer-Schlumpf has never let it be doubted that she finds it wrong when domestic tax authorities are less well-informed than those abroad. If she's not stopped she ... will soon want to abolish bank secrecy in Switzerland as well. Events in the US are wreaking havoc here at home."
