Plane crash in Russia no coincidence

Forty-three passengers were killed in a plane crash near the Russian city of Yaroslavl on Wednesday, while only two survived. On board were the players of the former Russian ice hockey championship team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, including many international stars. For the conservative daily Lidové noviny the disaster was predictable: "Why were the players more expensive than the whole aircraft? The Russian ice hockey league KHL adorns itself with top athletes. The money is there to pay them and their expensive trainer. Aboard the plane were the Canadian coach McCrimmon, the Czech world champions Rachůnek, Marek and Vašíček, the Slovak Demitra, the Swede Liv and the German Dietrich. The plane, by contrast, dated back to the Brezhnev era. How can it be that the KHL has enough money to hire world-class players but none for other essential things? Many athletes who want to make big money in Russia will be asking themselves the same question."
