Oval Office vs. Romanian president's den
US President received his Romanian colleague Traian Băsescu on Tuesday in the Oval Office. Unlike Băsescu's office the room was pleasant and flooded with light, the daily Gândul notes: "Our president sits toward the back of his office in a regal chair, the office furniture is made of cherry wood, there is a computer and a few telephones. The room seems dark and impersonal, like a museum. No president has ever used it for official receptions or to deliver important messages. ... The Romanians associate their head of state far more with party meeting rooms than with his office. In the Oval Office, by contrast, The US president looks like a head of state in the service of his people, while the Romanian president sits hidden away in his palace. ... No doubt that's why Romanians are under the impression that their government has something to hide and only thinks about its own interests."
