Romania defends itself against the Netherlands
The Netherlands announced on Friday that it would veto Schengen accession for Bulgaria and Romania at a meeting of EU interior ministers scheduled for Thursday. In reaction Romania tightened its controls of flower transports from the Netherlands and stopped Dutch trucks on the border. The daily Adevărul finds the response appropriate: "The Dutch have declared they don't want us in the Schengen Area, and we were quick to remind them that they also have their weak points. ... They don't like the way we guard our borders? Then we'll give them a little taste of our vigilance. ... Certainly, this whole thing could also be just a big coincidence: because until now no one's shown any interest in Dutch tulip bulbs. ... Do they have a suspicious shape? Or contain a monstrous bacteria that could harm our precious country! We haven't found any bacteria ... but at least we have excluded the Dutch."
