Schengen Area lacks solidarity
Romania and Bulgaria will not be allowed to join the Schengen Area for the time being, after their accession was blocked by the Dutch and the Finns at the meeting of EU interior ministers in Brussels on Thursday. But it's not just xenophobic politicians in the Netherlands and Finland who are causing the battle lines to be drawn, writes the daily Delo: "The fronts are also being hardened by a veritable psychosis of general dissatisfaction within the EU. In these times of exacerbated public finance imbalances this phenomenon is engendering doomsday scenarios because of the uncertain future of the Eurozone, not to mention the entire EU. And it is the biggest danger to the principle of solidarity and the respect of mutual interests on which European integration has been based for decades."
