Romanian politicians abuse census

A census that ends on October 31 is being carried out in in Romania, in which every household will be canvassed. Mircea Marian explains in the blog portal hydepark why he will not participate: "The fine for breaching the confidentiality of the data is between 200 and 1,000 lei [50 - 250 euros]. That is ridiculously low. In the US such an infraction will cost you 45,000 dollars. ... I happen to have seen how the data from the last census has been used: I spoke with politicians who browsed through innumerable questionnaires even though they didn't have the right to! I'm sure that they will once more prove passionate readers - of their enemies' (or friends') questionnaires. For that reason I will refuse to take part in the census. ... The Romanian state has no business poking around in the private lives of its citizens."
