Nokia needs successful Windows telephone

The Finnish mobile telephone company Nokia surprised its shareholders on Thursday with a ten percent short-term rise in share prices. But this won't be the end of Nokia's problems, writes the liberal daily Karjalainen: "Third-quarter losses were lower than expected, which investors rewarded with a strong rise in share prices. Consumer interest in the N9 mobile telephone shows that Nokia telephones are still a front runner when the product is worth its salt. It was also good news for Nokia that mobile telephones equipped with two SIM cards are in big demand in Asia and Africa. But despite the better-than-expected third-quarter results, Nokia's return to success still depends on one factor. CEO Stephen Elop's strategic turn to Windows telephones must soon produce a Nokia device that customers will buy like hotcakes. Christmastime would be a wonderful occasion for Nokia to show what it is capable of."
