A decent prime minister leaves politics
The Slovakian Prime Minister Iveta Radičová announced on Tuesday that she is retiring from politics after the elections next March. She had previously failed in a parliamentary motion of confidence held in connection with the euro bailout fund. The liberal daily Sme laments her decision: "Slovakia hasn't got that many politicians who are as decent as Radičová, She wanted to teach the men in her cabinet to govern with their hearts and a sense of humaneness. She failed. The women who come after her will have a harder time in politics. The second lesson: you can't be head of government without adequate support from your own party. The prime minister's most important merits were that she was upright and intelligent. But we have seen that that's not enough for the post. However Iveta Radičová could be a good president one day."
