Bolshoi unaffordable for average earners
Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre was re-opened on Friday with a gala event after six years of renovation. But ticket prices will continue to be just as unaffordable for average citizens as the opening gala, the left-liberal daily Delo surmises: "The lesser mortals had to make do with a televised broadcast of the opening ceremony. Several hundred enthusiasts gathered in front of the theatre, where two large screens had been set up, to watch excerpts of the ballet Swan Lake despite the icy temperatures. And they will continue to have a hard time entering this hallowed cultural venue which has been a national symbol for many years. Ticket prices for the Bolshoi Theatre cost at least seventy euros, corresponding roughly to the average monthly pension in Russia."
