Military strike against Iran senseless
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared on Wednesday that he plans to continue with his country's nuclear programme despite mounting international pressure following the publication of the International Atomic Energy Authority's report. The left-liberal daily Der Standard warns the West and Israel against a rash military strike: "The first paradox is that Iran's political decision to develop the bomb could be sped up by such a strike. That this decision has not yet been taken makes - and that is the second paradox - the danger of war all the more real. Because sooner or later the time for a military strike will have elapsed. But it doesn't make sense anyway. You can destroy sites and kill people, but you can't eradicate technological know-how. And the consequences of further destabilising such an unstable region with yet another war are unforeseeable."
