Shake-up in Croatia's parliament
In Croatia the opposition Kukuriku coalition led by the Social Democrats won the parliamentary elections on Sunday, ousting the conservative ruling party HDZ, which is embroiled in several corruption scandals. The left-liberal daily Delo believes the Kukuriku coalition with its absolute majority has the ability to resolve the major problems of the EU candidate country: "The coalition has a chance if it pursues its goals as promised, doesn't make any weak compromises and combats the rampant corruption, and if it doesn't suppress the judiciary, economy and media like the current government. Then Kukuriku will gain the support of those who didn't vote on Sunday because they have given up hope. And not least it will convince those who voted for it even though they had reservations because they don't believe the political promises yet."
