No new wars under Obama
US Secrety of Defense Leon Panetta on Thursday officially declared the Iraq war over. The remaining 4,000 US troops are to leave the country by the end of the year. The conservative daily Lidové noviny expresses the view that there won't be any more deployments of this kind under President Barack Obama: "Up to now the US was in a two-front war, in Iraq and in Afghanistan. After nine years that is over. Do they now have a free hand to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions? No, not as long as Obama occupies the White House. The example of Libya shows his way of waging war: he relies on his European allies in Nato and works behind the scenes. But between us: who would act differently in his situation?"
