EU remains toothless
Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán need not fear the EU, writes the left-liberal daily Dnevnik: "Orbán has observed during his second term of office that above all in the new member states, Europe regards authoritarian decisions with suspicion but doesn't do anything about them. The EU grumbled a bit when the new media law which runs counter to the fundamental principles of Hungarian democracy was passed, but that was all. ... No other democracy in Europe has such a law. And it is absurd that the law took effect on precisely the same day when Hungary assumed the EU Council presidency."
