Violence prevention as answer to Malmö murders
A 50-year-old man was shot on the street in the city of Malmö in southern Sweden on Tuesday. He is the fifth victim within a month and the police are working on the assumption that a gang war among young criminals with an immigrant background is behind the crimes. The left-liberal tabloid Aftonbladet calls for intensified measures to prevent violence: "Swedish research shows that youths who grow up with poor parents in poor districts are easily impressed by criminal friends. But it's not the money that impresses them. Status and approval are more important goals. It is a great challenge for Malmö to ensure that youths don't slip into a criminal lifestyle and that victims of crime receive adequate support so that they don't turn into criminals themselves."
