Polish gas compromise with Russia overdue
Poland and Russia have reached a compromise on gas supplies: Poland will dispense with its transit fees on supplies destined for Germany while the Russian side will sell Poland gas at reduced prices. The conservative daily Rzeczpospolita breathes a sigh of relief: "It was high time too. The frost and insufficient gas supplies had already led to the first cuts in supplies for companies. If they had failed to reach a compromise even more companies would have been affected. The available information about the Polish-Russian gas agreement is very positive and testifies to great pragmatism on the Polish side. We have endured around six months of negotiations. In this situation we were facing a gas fraud. In the end it was simply decided that although the Russians aren't paying us the due amount for gas transit we won't lose anything because they're selling the gas to us at a cheaper price."
