Lithuania's politicians must clarify scandal
The scandal over the dismissed top officials at the Lithuanian Financial Crime Investigation Service (FNTT) is making waves. The authority allegedly passed on confidential information about the nationalisation of Snoras Bank to the media prior to the move. A public inquiry needs to be launched into the allegations, the online portal of the Lithuanian radio broadcaster LRT demands: "There are many versions about what happened. But which is right? Aren't there too many secrets behind the scenes of our government? … President Grybauskaitė backs the decision of Interior Minister Palaitis [to sack the FNTT bosses]. This means she knows more than has been made public, otherwise she wouldn't dare do this. But we don't know anything, so we try to support one side or the other based on what our instincts tell us, letting our emotions guide us and drawing our own conclusions. But this is not the path to the truth and justice we so urgently need."
