State has failed over Amber Gold
Many people in Poland believe that those who invested in the bankrupt financial service provider Amber Gold should be held liable for their own losses, because the company's promises of high returns were clearly unrealistic. But the state is also to blame, because the prosecution failed to properly examine earlier accusations against Amber Gold, journalist Łukasz Warzecha writes in the conservative tabloid Fakt: "The prosecutor addressed the case as if she didn't really feel like doing the job at all. Does that constitute a failure on the part of the state? Of course it does. If things had gone as they are supposed to, Amber Gold would probably have stopped doing business far sooner. Now we just need to find out who is still protecting the company. Because only the very naive could believe it is not being protected in one form or another. My fear is that things will pan out as they have in the past. Instead of holding officials responsible for their own mistakes, we will once again be presented with proposals for regulations that limit our freedom - of course, all in our own best interest."
