Dismantling Memorials in a Wave of Iconoclasm

The bronze soldier – the trigger of the current memorial controversy. The statue, which depicts a grieving Soviet soldier, was erected at the centre of Talinn in 1947. Members of the Russian minority placed flowers at the foot of the statue each May 9 on the anniversary of the Soviet victory.
