Cultural Capital Maribor can provide stimulus
The Slovenian city of Maribor is European Capital of Culture 2012. Despite the infrastructural problems in the run-up to the event it is still too early to speak of a success or failure, writes the daily Delo: "Only when today's teenagers reach maturity - about a decade from now - will we be able to assess the impact. But only if they go to the cultural events. ... Art can instil an awareness of culture because it can give strong - even shocking - impetus that have the power to bring about fundamental changes in our lives. Of course you've got to be open to the experience. The success of the project European Capital of Culture will only be truly apparent if young people are still inspired to visit the theatres, museums and concert halls in a few years' time. This year Maribor is offering more than enough stimulus for that."
