Russian Party Harmony Centre in Latvia
In the last elections in Latvia the Harmony Centre managed to get into the parliament. Now other groups have joined forces with the party. Viktors Avotins asks about the direction in which the party is proceeding. Although hardly anyone speaks about it publicly, this party is less about politics and more about the Russian minority. "The party's stance is at times right, at times left, at time green. If it is to encompass such a broad range of ideas, how can one approach its content? Party leader Boriss Cilevics has recommended a convergence with the European social democrats, which in turn would limit his party's scope. Yet at the same time its name includes 'Centre,' which would also allow for other ideological opinions. The Harmony Centre is a party that talks a lot about ideology without taking a clear stance."
